The Terms of Employment Acts requires an employer to furnish employees with a statement of the main terms and conditions of their employment within two months of commencement. The required information includes the place of work, the duration of any temporary or fixed-term contract, the rate or method of calculation of remuneration, the frequency of remuneration, any terms, or conditions regarding hours of work including overtime, paid leave, incapacity to work due to sickness or injury, and paid sick leave. The statement should also specify the period of notice which the employee must give, and is entitled to receive, to terminate the employment. Trial periods of up to 12 months from the commencement of the employment may be agreed between the parties, although in practice trial periods may be much shorter. Although it is not a legal requirement that they be agreed in writing, in practice they are.
